Gaoquan Xingdun, Manpukuji’s fifth abbot, began his career as an attendant to Yinyuan in China and later joined the master’s inner circle in Japan where he oversaw significant renovations at Manpukuji and edited classic Ōbaku texts. He is celebrated for his elegant calligraphy and literary accomplishments.
